Discovering Ikigai in Bali
A workshop in Bali introduced Silvia to the Japanese concept of ikigai, finding the balance between what you love, what you're good at, what the world needs, and what you can receive in return. It's been her compass ever since.

It was the summer of 2019, and I was living in Bali, deeply immersed in the development of my marketing consulting project, now known as Blockchain Marketing Boutique. I was working from either Dojo Bali or HUBUD, I don't exactly recall which one at the moment. During that time, I attended one of those enlightening workshops that I enjoy so much. It was at that gathering where the term "ikigai" was introduced.
At first, I wondered: "ikigai," what is it?
The term "ikigai" is composed of two Japanese words: "iki" (生き), which refers to life, and "kai" (甲斐), which, through rendaku, becomes "gai" and roughly translates to "the realization of what one expects and desires."
This Japanese word was a revelation for me, and since then, I've kept it in mind with every decision I make in my life. The idea of finding that point of balance between what I love, what I'm good at, what the world needs, and what I can receive in return became a compass in my journey.
If you want to learn more, I recommend reading El método Ikigai: Despierta tu verdadera pasión y cumple tus propósitos vitales. I read it in Spanish, but it's translated into 30 languages; the authors are Francesc Miralles and Héctor García.
I hope this little "pill" serves as inspiration for you when you face important decisions in your life.
A big hug to everyone!
